Abstract
A white paper reporting on the XQuery Summer Institute held at Vanderbilt University in June 2014. The institute was aimed at archivists, librarians, professors, and students who have experience marking up texts in XML but do not yet know how to work computationally with those documents. Twelve digital humanities professionals spent two weeks learning to query XML-encoded texts with XQuery—for database ingestion, analysis, information integration, and web publication—moving beyond XML as a form of representation toward XML-based discovery.
