Abstract
This contribution to a collection of short essays on teaching with digital humanities describes Mapping Berlin, a collaborative course and digital project at Vanderbilt University that examines the culture and geopolitics of twentieth-century Berlin from auditory and spatial perspectives, taking Walter Benjamin’s notion of the flâneur as its guide. The authors reflect on how digital mapping invites students to experience the city’s history as urban wanderers rather than as passive readers.
