Abstract
How should theological librarians develop computational literacy—for themselves and for their communities? This chapter argues for cultivating computational thinking rather than training in transient tools and techniques. The authors introduce the Beauty and Joy of Computing (BJC), a curriculum that pairs the study of algorithmic concepts with reflection on the social implications of computing, and draw on their experience adapting it at Vanderbilt University to show how librarians can foster critical engagement with algorithms among students and scholars of religion.
